Professor Silke Reeves joined the German program in the fall of 2022 and currently teaches introductory German courses.

Professor Reeves is a native of Germany.  She holds doctoral degrees in economics from the University of Göttingen and the University of California, Los Angeles (1992, 1993) and an MA degree in applied math from UCLA (1990). She also holds a teaching license for the state of Virginia with endorsements in German and mathematics. Prior to joining GWU, she taught high school German for Arlington Public Schools. She won the Klett Award for Outstanding Virginia Novice Teacher of German in 2019.

Professor Reeves especially enjoys teaching beginning learners of German. It is a joy for her to hear her students begin their first conversations in the language and experience success in communicating in German. It is her hope that students leave her classes with an enthusiasm to continue studying the language and culture of the German-speaking countries.

In her free time, Professor Reeves loves the outdoors.  She enjoys camping, hiking, and biking with her husband. She has two adult sons.
