Maria Sitzler-Sawicki

Maria Sitzler-Sawicki joined the German department at George Washington University in Fall 2018 as an adjunct Professor. She holds an M.A. in German language and literature from the University of Maryland. She was an instructor at the University of Maryland where she taught intermediate German undergraduate courses. She graduated with a B.A. in German Studies from the University of Mary Washington. She speaks German, Italian, and Arbëreshë (derived from the Albanian language) fluently. English is her fourth language. She moved from Germany to the United States in 2010. She loves to travel and embrace new cultures.  Her academic interests are in Popliterature (Popliteratur), Migration literature (Migrationsliteratur), Weimar Republic (Weimarer Republik), New Objectivity (Neue Sachlichkeit), Exile Literature (Exilliteratur) and Postwar Literature (Nachkriegsliteratur/Trümmerliteratur).
