Minor in Spanish & Latin American Languages, Literatures & Cultures

The minor in Spanish and Latin American Languages, Literatures and Cultures offers a highly flexible 18-credit curriculum, making it ideal for students who wish to integrate Spanish with another field of study. After completing two core courses, minors choose from elective options such as Caribbean Literature and Culture, Literature and Dictatorship, Studies in Latinx Cultural Production, Queer Latin America and many more.

The following requirements must be fulfilled: 18 credits including 6 credits in required courses and 12 credits in elective courses, and satisfactory completion of the prerequisite introductory language sequence.

Course Requirements for Students Who Declared Prior to Fall 2019

Students must complete 18 credit hours consisting of:

  • Three courses chosen from SPAN 2005-3040,
  • SPAN 3100, and
  • Two courses in literature at the 3000-4000 level (from SPAN 3300 to SPAN 4700).

No more than three courses taken abroad may count toward the minor (excluding GW Study Centers in Chile and Spain).
