Background

 

Jean Freedman holds a BA in Dramatic Art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MA and Ph.D. in folklore from Indiana University. Her first book, Whistling in the Dark: Memory and Culture in Wartime London, is a study of the interplay between culture and political ideology in London during World War II. Her second book, a biography of American folksinger Peggy Seeger, will be published by the University of Illinois Press in 2016.
