Background

Emily Barthold is a proud alumna of The George Washington University (2011) and currently a PhD Candidate at Georgetown University. She received her Masters in German and European Studies from the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in 2014. Her primary research interests include historical fiction, nationalism studies, as well as comic studies, and her dissertation, tentatively titled "The Thirty Years’ War as Unifying Heritage: How Fiction Writers in Imperial Germany Portrayed Religion, Machtpolitik, and Nation," explores identity construction in Germany from 1871-1920 through the lens of literature about the Thirty Years' War.
